LAURENCE BIOGRAPHY
Laurence is the founder and designer of LRNCE. She comes from Belgium and she studied Fashion at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. After graduating, she did an internship at BLESS Berlin, and soon after went back to Ghent where she started the brand LRNCE, which at the time, was focused on bags. She was already very influenced by African tribes and cults back then.
After discovering the essence of Morocco when traveling in the desert, she was hooked. In the summer of 2015, She packed her sewing machine, sold all her belongings, shipped 100kg of materials and moved to Marrakech for good. She was really inspired and she still is, every day, by the harmony of the city, from the colours, to the people, it all feeds into her creations.
LRNCE has now developed into a Marrakesh based lifestyle brand that focuses on interior decoration and accessories. Working with craftsmen and women, she stays close to the creation process, as she wants to make carefully handmade products. She is currently designing and producing blankets, carpets, pillows, ceramics, wooden mirrors, sandals, kimonos, and t-shirts. Nonetheless, to her, it’s very important to always have time to paint, which she can now do in her studio showroom/studio, which opened in September 2017.
Nowadays, She is constantly coming up with new products as she experiment with different materials and learn about new techniques by continuing on working closely with artisans. Behind every handmade piece, there is a story, an expression of feelings and this why she names all her collection after someone or something. It is a way to celebrate the one person or thing, a way giving them a tribute and especially to remember all the hard work and dedication that goes into every piece.
